Mary E. Marshall-Proctor (Betty) was born in Washington, DC, and raised in Charles County Maryland. She has three children, six grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren. In 1978 she began working as a Secretary at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for over 19 years. After a year of study and training she was promoted to a Computer Technician until retirement in 2009 with 30 years of service at the age of 65. Today at the age of 78 she resides in Maryland and focuses on enjoying retirement.
Mary began this historical picture collection as a hobby in 2008, collecting pictures of Barack Obama during his campaign. She states: “I never thought a person of color would be elected President of the United States of America during my lifetime.” Every Christmas she would make each of her grandchildren their own miniature photo album of Barack Obama as a Christmas gift and continued to expand on the collection. She continued to share with family and friends, who inspired her to share this collection with the world. Once Barack Obama was elected President of the United States of America (USA), she became focused on preserving photos of him and his family. She hoped that the end result of this collection can be a conversation piece for everyone in the United States and around the World. She states: “Everyone should have a copy of this Historical Picture Collection of the 44th President on their coffee table!” She received an official copyright in October 2017. Mary is elated to share this collection with the world and hopes that you are as excited as she is to partake in a major part of history.
